Thanos’ Brack Grass

From OurFoodChain

Despite its name, Thanos’ Brack Grass (Thyanopia brackitula) is just a lowly marine grass. Descended from Thanos’ Marine Grass (Pisdasios okeanus), it spread from Zone 3 into the mouth of Zone 19, and has once again became tolerant of ‘fresher’ water by losing most of its salt-expelling vacuoles. However, it is still confined to the mouths and deltas of Zone 19. It grows and thrives in this brackish environment, living everywhere in the mouth of Zone 19.

It can grow up to 1 foot tall. Like its ancestor, its seeds are black and weighted, which helps protect them from the current from Zone 19 that threatens to throw them back into Zone 3. It sprouts when submerged, and only stops growing should the water level drop too low for it to respire (which isn’t common in its range). As long as it remains mostly submerged, it takes 3 weeks to mature from a seed.

To protect from the current, they have deeper roots anchored further into the sediment. Due to the energy expended in growing these roots they are shorter; however, this quirk is twisted to their advantage as it lowers the amount of drag they experience.
