Taxonophyte Wyrmfish

From OurFoodChain

After the evolution of Sustonomum legumenfluvius in zone 15 some populations of Killislontus flumucaudus specialized for eating them to avoid competition. To take advantage of their new diet K. flumucaudus adaptat which would result in them diverging into a new species.

35 centimeters long
Originated in Zone 15

As the Taxonophyte Wyrmfish (Killislontus pascebantur) specialized on S. legumenfluvius, they had to adapt with feeding on the riverbed where their food grows rather than swimming in the water column. The upper jaw of the Taxonophyte Wyrmfish developed a calcified ridge on the outer rim of the mouth, which in combination with a lower jaw that has the end point downward, allows them to selectively snip off choice pieces of their food.

Females lay around 5-8 eggs among the polyphs growing in the river. With no predators to threaten them, the species also retain the habit of breeding when population numbers are low. This is due to most individuals in the population reaching sexual maturity and the overpopulation that would occur if they bred at a faster pace.
