Sturge Squad Dropping In!

Descended from S. sturgeous
Zone 2
With competition increasing in zone 1, some S. sturgeous began to migrate even farther north to the frigid water in zone 2. This new zone held plenty of food for S. sturgeous, however due to changed water conditions and new predators, they have evolved into S. lamenta. They are homeothermic to survive the cooler water temperatures. They also have a raised internal pressure to allow them to travel into the bathypelagic depths of the zone. They are able to travel up to the mesopelagic zone however, as their thick leathery skin helps contain their internal pressure. The rear fins have also extended to improve mobility. They feed entirely on the polyphs present in zone 2, and they will eat the material whether or not it is dead or alive. This gives them an advantage as they are able to function as a base-consumer and scavenger/decomposer, and thus there is never a shortage of food for them. Because of this, they can take up to a year to reach their maximum size of 23cm long. The females will lay up to 30 eggs per year, usually laying 2 batches of 15 or so twice a year once they reach full size. They bury their eggs just like their ancestors. One individual may live as long as 10 years in ideal conditions.
