Rules/Retcons
Retconning is, for the most part, forbidden. Once a species has passed review and been accepted, its features are considered canon and cannot be changed.
Special Exceptions[edit]
Ambiguous Features[edit]
If you are evolving from an ancestor with ambiguous features, sometimes retconning is necessary. An example would be a polyph that produces seeds, but never states or depicts where the seeds are formed on the organism.
In these situations, begin by asking the original creator of the species for an explanation of the feature. As the creator of the species, they have first rights to decide how its features work as long as they do not conflict with any related species or descendants.
If the original creator is not able to be contacted or cannot provide an answer, ask the Natural Selection Staff for an explanation of the feature. Staff members will provide an explanation for you that is both bare-minimum (to have as little affect on existing species as possible) and in-line with related species and descendants. You are welcome to make suggestions as well, but they are subject to NSS approval.
All retcons are subject to NSS approval.
