Dung Featherstalk

From OurFoodChain
(Redirected from Polygene coproplumis)

Polygene allosporia competes with the Short Featherstalk (P. altumpellus) and is better adapted to the harsh desert environment. This pushed populations to specialize and led to the Dung Featherstalk, Polygene coproplumis.

6 cm tall
Originated in Zone E

The Dung Featherstalk specializes in decomposing dung and it has adapted to be able to metabolize muscal waste products. The species originated in zone E due to higher rainfall in Adero which supports larger polyph populations in turn supporting larger herbivore populations which produce large amounts of dung for the Dung Featherstalk to break down. Wyvernsaur dung has uric acid which the Dung Featherstalk is capable of degrading and extracting nitrogen for growth. It can only be found on dung or where dung once lay; its spores have thick cell walls and are highly resistant to desiccation, and they do not germinate until either they land on dung or dung lands on them. They detect whether they are in contact with dung based on the presence nitrogen compounds like uric acrid.

The Dung Featherstalk reproduces asexually using feathered spore pods which burst open when exposed to moisture. Instead of germinating right away, as mentioned before the spores lie dormant waiting for dung.
