Pateratatus chaliza
Extinct (July 24th, 2019): Outcompeted by S. phyllosymplegmus and its descendants.
Descended from S. desertensis, this tree simply extended the base of its trunk to extend its leaves out slightly further, but also creating a bowl-like dent in the top of the tree. It also grow slightly taller at 8 feet, and the leaves are now able to grow to the entire length of the plant. The bowl on top helps with this, as during the infrequent rains the water will pool up in the bowl and the plant will absorb it. The water is then soaked down into the base of the plant, and further redistributed through xylem in the core of the trunk to the leaves. This is to minimalize water loss, as the bowl itself may desiccate between rains. It reproduces the exact same way as its ancestor
