Paloslontus axulhachus

From OurFoodChain

After U. subterrania began losing it’s edge in zone E after the rise of the wyverns, it took the part of it’s life spent within the waters of zone 17 and expanded on it. After Athanasios limnizoius and anoterus showed up, providing extra food within the zone, U. axulhachus evolved to be fully suited to an aquatic lifestyle. It also still eats M. greana. Growing much larger tail fins, a dorsal fin, and webbed toes, it is able to tread through the water with ease. These new appendages are made from the same tissue as the tail fin. This tissue is thinner but more rigid, and with extra muscle structure at the base they can be manuvered, allowing for better control in the water. It consumes the Athanasios species within the zone. It’s only downside is that it cannot breathe underwater, so it needs to surface for air. It can, however, hold its breath for an impressive amount of time, 15 minutes at rest as an adult. This creature sleeps on the shoreline with its head above water so as to prevent drowning. It likes to hide within the thanos grasses while sleeping to not become an easy target. Like its ancestor, it is nocturnal, doing most of its moving at night.

There is a breeding season every other month. Eggs are laid underwater within the grasses, usually in clutches of around a dozen. The eggs are soft, and able to absorb oxygen from the surrounding water. Young hatch at 5cm, and adults reach 15cm.
