Chomping Wyrmfish

Killislontus killifoeto diversified in zone 21, competition over resources resulted in different populations specializing into different niches and radiating into different species. One lineage took advantage of the local Glomapans becoming Killislontus glomaphageus.

8-20 cm long

The Chomping Wyrmfish exclusively feeds on members of the Musguminita genus. Calcified ridges on the jaws allow them to better tear the polyphs for eating. They are very similar to their ancestor and relatives; the species travels in shoals of 60-100 individuals while searching for their next meal. A difference in appearance is a dark streak around their eye that goes down a third of their body. The males consistently have a red steak because females breed with males that have the most vibrant streak. Females have much more variable coloration ranging from dark green to red to nearly black. These variable colors and the bright colors on the males were able to evolve due to genetic drift without selection agents against them.

As a male and female pair off to breed, the females lay their eggs in the substrate in clutches of up to 20-40 with the males then fertilizing them before the two move off and rejoin the shoal. Once the eggs hatch, the resulting offspring are fully independent.
