Strangling Grass

developments/adaptations
~a type of grass that has adapted to it's parasitic lifestyle.
Roots got longer due to individuals who had long roots getting a lot more resources from the ground, while normal sized root genes tended to die off earlier, leading to long root genes reproducing more, allowing this species to have this attribute.
this eventually allowed them to kill or starve trees by blocking the host's roots from getting to resources or restricting nutrient flow in the roots of the host, getting them an influx of resources from decomp of those trees. these root sap water and nutrients from hosts.
It also got wider leaves, (about 3) since host plants tended to block out a lot of sunlight access, making smaller leaved plants likely to fail to reproduce as much, selecting wider and more leafed plants to surface.
this grass species drops its 50mm seeds in November, sprouting within a few days.
It also has preliminary vines/rhizomes that spread out across the ground sprouting up new plants.
It grows up to 14 inches tall, and saps water and nutrients from trees like P. spineesa. it has strong roots which can reach lengths of about 3ft, which curl around the roots of the host tree or blocking nutrients to the roots, eventually killing the tree, which the roots may sometimes curl around the fallen tree slowly using up the nutrients from the decomposition, although it does take a while before losing it's host. when it loses it's host, it generally slows down it's growth rate.
Plants usually reach full maturity by August or October, which is when they bloom.
