Fungradi cartius

From OurFoodChain

Fungradi polarus rely on absorbing gamma radiation to survive. Increasing surface area allows them to absorb more radiation. Over time some isolated networks began developing taller domes. This led to Fungradi cartius.

Fungradi cartius reaches 4-5cm tall and reproduces by fragmentation. To support the greater height the diameter has increased to 6cm. The dome is tapered the higher it gets reaching a somewhat round point at the top. The hyphae will grow in search of nutrients and form new domes throughout the zone. The cells remain mostly undifferentiated except that dome cells will grow thicker cell walls to further support the taller growth. Higher elevations are preferred but F. cartius is more capable of surviving at lower elevations. Their hyphae break apart rocks through mechanical action.

Extremosuperstes acidogenii continues to live in the cracks created by F. cartius.
