Fungradi atelus
The energy expenditure of Fungradi polarus growing its dome reduced hyphal growth, limiting its spread. Some separate networks of F. polarus began developing smaller domes which allowed them to spread with hyphae quicker. This led to the evolution of Fungradi atelus.
Fungradi atelus no longer grows domes instead growing strands on and in the substrate which allows them to maximize their rate of spreading and increase surface area without a great increase to volume at any part of the organism. This growth form also left less exposed to predation by surface dwelling species like Terracrabbids. F. atelus still absorbs gamma radiation but has shifted to uptaking more nutrients from the substrate. Extremosuperstes acidogenii continues to live in the cracks created by F. atelus.
