Dorite's Thanos Tower
6 feet tall
Originated in Zone 19
When some seeds of Psylofolium pollapodius got carried by the currents and brought into the river that makes up Zone 19, they were able to scratch out a living but had limited success. To make due with the local challenges such as the powerful river currents and the fact its not salt water, they ended up speciating.
Psylofolium inclinistipes has developed more extensive roots than its ancestors, which provide a more stable base against the currents of Zone 19. Their ancestral adaptations of removing excess salt through specialized vacuoles that allowed them to survive in the oceans weren't much of a hindrance in freshwater and simply became vestigial as the energy used to grow those vacuoles instead help the polyph grow waxy cuticles on the leaves exposed to the air to avoid desiccation (the leaves under the water lack the coverings and as such help with more efficient respiration).
To help with resisting the strong currents present in the zone, Psylofolium inclinistipes has reduced the amount of xylem tissues inside of them which gives the trunk extra flexibility. Although this may have increased the risk of desiccating if Psylofolium inclinistipes lived fully on land, being partially submerged means they have constant access to water which then evens out their water intake.
It generally grows in forest-like groups where currents cause their seeds to cluster together, and when the woody parts of their roots are exposed they can serve as excellent shelter for small muscals. Like its ancestors, it reproduces asexually by producing seeds. Once produced, the dense seeds will sink to the bottom. When the seeds first sprout, they will closely resemble Thanos’ Marine Grass (Pisdasios okeanus), but it continues to grow for about another 3 years or until toppled.
