C. viriclavus is an aquatic plant that grows in the shallow waters of Zone 29. They use a green chlorophyll-like pigment to produce sugars using sunlight. Their roots, tendrils that extend down into the substrate, anchor them to the bottom of Zone 29.
Reproduction is carried out via many small, hard, weighted seeds that fall from the curved tip. These seeds are weighted in order to sink to the bottom of the channel. Seeds are oblong shaped to more easily become lodged in the substrate.
