Amplusphaeria abstractus
Amplusphaeria abstractus is a terrestrial relative of Nebulimpa protos found in Zone N. They are, like its aquatic cousin, colonial and double roughly every 25-30 minutes. They also use Bacteriorhodopsin for photosynthesis. Each individual can be between 3μm and 5μm. Due to it being terrestrial, it does not have water available all the time. However, that doesn't mean water isn't available alot of the time- as snow is frozen water. So A. abstractus has developed the ability to create heat energy and add that energy to the snow, melting it into and absorbing the water. These cells still have anti-freezing compounds, but due to the air being far colder then the water, they have to manufacture more of these. Colonies can often be destroyed via gusts of wind, in which now-seperated cells will reproduce and create their own colony.
While the Palaean can typically survive snowstorms, extremely harsh ones can often kill entire colonies by covering them with more snow that they can melt. To survive these, they typically have to rely on luck, wind blowing them above the snow, and on the number of colonies. Most surviving colonies are found on the border of Zone M as the temperature is less severe the more north you go, so that location typically has the most individuals and the most (and longest-lasting) colonies.
