Tridactylus cornucauda

From OurFoodChain

Zone: 9
Size: 8-10inches long
Role: scavenger
Relations:

Due to high predation and the lack of hosts to take to down prey, T. kleptoparsutii started hiding in rocky reefs and forests of Taxonum sp. as well as congregating in groups(forced to by lack of food) near the giant dead corpses of dead/killed Vertabrates(such as G. flotensis, T. gigantocetus, B. ferrodontus, M. charcadontolosteus). Over time, this lead to some interesting changes.

A group of 30-20 T. cornucauda will seek out a carcass to feed on. Metatestudius karcharimati will acts as a predator alert, using their complex eyes to detect any predators. Once they do, they’ll alert T. cornucauda by tapping on it which is when they will all collectively display their brightly colored tails and wave them in a rhythmic pattern to stun and confuse the predator before running into the safely of their home.

Their tails have become wider for greater swimming speed, and they’ve grown larger to better distract their predators.

Their larvae are worm-like and mostly feed on the surrounding the vegetation once hatched. After eating enough food, it will burrow into the substrate and pupate. Once hatched, it will join surrounding groups. When reproducing, groups will gather together and select their own mates. The females then lay their eggs near any vegetation and go on with their day.
