Thanos' Submerged Grass
Despite its name, Thanosâ Submerged Grass is just a lowly aquatic grass. Descended from Thanosâ Better Aquatic Grass (A. anoterus), it gained the ability to get all the oxygen and carbon dioxide it needs from water by absorbing it directly through its leaves and then transporting the gasses it extracted through the leaves and their respective stems via the aerenchyma inherited from its ancestor to other parts of the polyph, allowing it to live entirely submerged, unlike its ancestor--and therefore spread all over Zone 17 regardless of depth. This has a drawback, however; it lost its stomata, so it lost the ability to respire air, and as a result it will die if it isn't at least partially submerged. Its leaves can grow up to 2 feet tall, supported by the tiny 2-inch tall trunk, and much like its ancestor its seeds are distributed by water currents. In the event of algal blooms, or any event where there starts to be less light during the day than there should be, it uses all the energy it has to produce as many seeds as possible so that some may sprout after the bloom ends. The seeds are black in color, and just dense enough to not float while still being easily transported by water. It sprouts when submerged and exposed to sunlight and only stops growing if the water level drops below about halfway up its leaves; as long as it remains at least partially submerged, it takes just 2 weeks to mature from a seed.
