Despite its name, Thanos’ Coastal Grass is just a lowly savannah grass. Descended from Thanos’ Grass, this grass-like polyph barely differs from its ancestor except that it is more tolerant of salty water, allowing it to grow along the coast with far more ease. Its tolerance of saltwater is due to it having mechanisms to filter and remove salt, first through the undersides of its leaves before its small trunk develops, after which it releases salt through its bark. Like it ancestor, it reproduces asexually and drops seeds around itself. As long as there is water, they sprout and grow very quickly; during the dry season, this polyph stops reproducing until there is enough water to start again, while those closer to the coast where the ground is wetter reproduce almost year-round. Like its ancestor, it relies on its environment for water more than its tiny trunk. The remnants of its trunk rarely grow taller than 2 inches, but its leaves can grow up to a foot long if they are not trimmed by herbivores. Its roots are thin and hairy, and go only half its height below ground and spread out about the same amount in each direction; they may be slightly larger in drier parts of its range. In favorable conditions, it can reach reproductive maturity from a seed in 2-3 weeks, but can take as long as 4 months in drier conditions and will not grow at all during the dry season in the more arid parts of its range.
