Evolved from S. cannibalisii that were pushed into zone 13 by intraspecific competition. They developed to be larger to overpower prey.

Found in zone 13 they grow up to a max of 75cm long. They live in groups of 2-3 feeding on G. cyclopsi, S. kelpalantus, M. kelpaspikus, L. byssumcoda, C. populator, T. pelagicus, G. extendum T. aqualantis, and T. spottenzii. This species uses its tail to steer itself when swimming. When hunting they prefer to hunt in open water as they can be easily out maneuvered in dense vegetation. They hunt by suddenly speeding up once the prey is spotted, grabbing their prey, and swallowing it whole. They will leave their moiuth open to catch microbes in the water column like L. byssumcoda.

When breeding males flare at the female pumping blood to their fins giving their fins more red coloration and tries to attract females. Females judge by the intensity of the colour and males want to show that the male have a better circulatory system signaling that they have good genes. Mating occurs when many groups up to 2-4 groups come and mate with each other which they return back to their groups after mating. Once the female accepts the male, the male would mate with the female using its front limbs to grab the female as it mates, after mating the male leaves. The female will be pregnant and the gestate its egg in its womb which would take 1-2 months.

The female would then give birth to 5-12 larvae. The female will take care of her young as other groups will try to eat them because the young's chitin is soft and are easily eaten by other groups of S. canninatryx. After 2 months they will molt and their shell will harden but they will still live with their mother for the next 2 months. The mother chases off her young when they are old enough to be independent.
