Simalgearous gastrous was having a relatively great time acting as a gut-microbe for the Tetraplacus sp. and having a monopoly over the role. However, over time, they’ve encountered 2 problems: first, if a Tetraplacus dies/ circumstances in their digestive tract becomes unfavorable, they have to escape through one end of their host body and travel long distances in between hosts, often causing deaths; second, populations within a host will often find themselves having to compete among eachother. Some individuals didn’t bother with facing any of these problems, and due to the increasing amount of algae and muscal corpses piling up in zone 2, simply latched onto some dead matter and started digesting it with enzymes, interpreting it in the same it would interpret a food items inside a hosts digestive tract.

Simalgearous corpsecleanerensis specializes in decomposing dead organic matter due to their abundance. They colonize dead algae, muscals, or feces and an use enzymes to digest and absorb the nutrients within said organic matter. To protect themselves from the harsh conditions outside of a host, they will cover themselves with a protein to form a coating that acts as a buffer between them and any external threats. They reproduce via division, and they will use their flagella to swim in search of new dead organ matter to colonize.
