Short-Tailed Wyverns (genus Draconiraptor) are various predatory wyverns distinguished by being the first lineage of wyvern to evolve short tails--a trait which made them incredibly efficient at flying, thus allowing them to spread rapidly. They are characterized by the presence of a fat deposit or dewlap on their throat and a "Mohawk" of feathers decorating the head and neck. All current species are carnivorous.

The first short-tailed wyvern was the Wyvern Hawk (Draconiraptor volturcephalus), which is descended from the Western Desert Wyvern (Dracowyverious gymnocephalus). So far, all of the Wyvern Hawk's descendants remain in this genus.

Hearing[edit]

Short-tailed wyverns are capable of hearing. Their ears include an ear canal, with the eardrum being embedded deeper in the head. The Pinpointer (Draconiraptor kokovajilotus) and its descendants additionally have their facial feathers organized in a manner which better directs sound into their ear canals, making their sense of hearing far more sensitive than that of other draconiraptors.
