As Fungera khthonspongos spread through zone D it eventually reached the water table of zone 21. Without having to deal with the water table inconsistencies of most of zone D F. khthonspongos was able to reproduce quickly around zone 21. The descendants adapted to life with constant water and became Fungera lattia.

Fungera lattia grows on the dead polyph matter in zone 21. The abundance of polyph matter in zone 21 without competition allows F. lattia to reproduce fast. F. lattia will grow quickly once the zoospores have settled and it begins growing mycelia. F. lattia will not produce any zoospores until the polyph matter its decomposing is in low supply then it will use stored nutrients to churn out large numbers of zoospores into the water before they die.

The zoospores are 10μm and the network reaches 2mm in radius. They produce a similar amount of fuscimalase as F. khthonspongos.
