Pinthanatos khthonspongos
As competition for dead bodies grows at the shore, Fungera psammoviri was eventually forced to move inland. They had to find other ways to for their zoospores to move so they simply move through the water table.
Masses of F. khthonspongos zoospores will travel through the water table in search of polyph corpses. They didn’t need to deal with osmotic pressure due to possessing a cell chitinous wall which originated from their ancestors.!They can only move as far as the water table allows them to so they can only search for corpses during rain storms. Once they reach one, they will transition to their next life stage and start generating mycelia.
If environmental condition are too dry, fully matured cells will produce as many zoospores as possible before going into stasis. Zoospores during drawn out periods of dryness will also go into stasis. They produce slightly less fuscimalase than their ancestors due to the lack of competition.
