Ossurans planii

From OurFoodChain
Extinct (February 26th, 2019): No reason provided.

A filter-feeding invertebrate that builds a shell around itself out of minerals extracted from the water. It bores through it's own casing to extend siphons that it uses to draw water into it's filtration organs. An expulsion siphon exists on one of it's sides, creating wavy patterns in the sand over time in a cone. It releases gametes into the open water seasonally, and it's offspring will anchor itself on whatever surface the fertilized egg happens to be on.

Found in oceanic areas and estuaries.
