After a genetic mutation that caused multiple blue foundation segments grow in a row, the green photosynthetic segments were forced to grow upwards. They will now only grow one photosynthetic segment per base segment, as if they grew any taller it would cause the other segments to become shaded and not be as efficient. They grow in a grid-like pattern across the rocks and seafloor, and they reproduce via fragmentation. Each segment grows to 3 cm tall. This polyph is also able to fully regrow itself as long as one anchor and one photosynthetic section remain. Water is also absorbed through all of the sections, and nutrients are often absorbed this way.
