The relationship between helix species and Odontotria siccumorphus was great; you could consider the two of them the best of pals. Siccumorphus loved all the additional sun and reach it was getting with the help of its noble steed.

Unfortuntately, not all creatures could appreciate the value of true friendship. D. plumaprimis, dead set on being a nuisance and highly jealous of the glory of helix, started preying upon H. grallaeus. H. grallaeus was one of the most important helix species to siccumorphus due to its superior climbing abilities. Someone had to do something, but what?

Just as things were looking dark, Odontotria luteiericius evolved in to help. Luteiericius grows in long strands, which dry out at the tips to produce thin, rigid spines. These spines are very sharp and highly irritant to predators, getting caught in their skin and mouths.

Like siccumorphus, luteiericius reproduces through fragmentation. Once a chunk is established, it begins growing and dropping off soft fragments before they have the chance to form spines, which adhere to helix shells more effectively.
