A 5mm planktonic multicellular organism with four appendages. P. pilosa lives in Zone 9. Its appendages each have a comb of hairs that it uses to catch particulate matter and move it to the mouth. It has a four segmented body: the first segment contains the mouth and a simple pair of light detecting cells, the second and third segment each have one pair of the appendages, and the fourth segment has the anus. It reproduces by releasing gametes into the ocean current. When the gametes are fertilized the zygote develops into a larval stage that resembles the adult but lacks the third and fourth segments which are added over time.
