Odontotria laspimorphus, which formed on the shells of H. pessulus, was often exposed to dry land as pessulus spent most of their time outside of the water. Odontotria siccumorphus has adapted to this lifestyle, and is able to thrive with minimal moisture.

Like its ancestor, it reproduces through fragmentation, dropping off pieces of itself onto nearby helix species and on the forensus trees they inhabit. It can be found on the shells of almost all land-based helix species and has spread to most forensus trees to some degree. It sees exceptional benefit from growing on high climbers such as grallaeus, which spend their time high in the trees where siccumorphus has access to more sunlight.
