This is descended from the Coronam articulata, a plant from zone H that "moves" by sprouting buds along it's expanding rhizomes. The Coronam retiarius takes the next step from its waterside ancestors and fully plunged into the waters of zone 4 (after some drifting). They have adapted to their marine habitat with wider bowl-shaped leaves to float with, better roots to absorb nutrients and water, and a reliance on vegetative propagation for reproduction. Despite not using their flowers to reproduce nearly as much as ancestors, they still retain them as a vestigial structure. As the retiarius grows, rhizomes will spread outwards, creating more leaves and more area until it forms a net-like structure. When the specimen gets too big, a section will be split from the rest and form an independent organism.
