Coronam envolvarius
Coronam envolvarius, a descendant of Coronam retiarius, resulted from populations living near the shores of Zone 4A began rooting in the substrate at the coasts of the island. C. envolvarius grows by rhizomes spreading through the soil with roots for nutrient uptake. When the rhizomes branch a cluster of leaves will grow.
C. envolvarius has lost the use of flowers for reproduction. It solely reproduces by fragmentation of its rhizomes now. The roots branch less often due to the greater abundance of nutrients in the soils. The petiole has greatly reduced in size because it is no longer needed for buoyancy and because the leaves do not need height to catch sunlight on land. This results in many large fields of these plants in the saturated lowlands and floodplains of the island. They live in the lowlands and coasts of the islands below 200 meters in elevation because higher elevation have less consistent soil moisture.
