Polygene plumosa was specialized on decomposing dead polyphs which allowed the corpses of muscals to build. As the muscal corpses became more available some P. plumosa began to decompose the corpses and produce more enzymes for breaking down proteins. These members led to P. callioptoma.

P. callioptoma looks similar to its ancestor but only grows to 5cm. It still produces the feathered spore pods to reproduce. P. callioptoma utilizes more enzymes which allow it to decompose a greater variety of detritus, allowing them to decompose muscal corpses. It grows quicker and shorter then P. plumosa to maximize the amount of spores it can spread.
