Extinct (April 5th, 2020): Outcompeted by J. picticornus

Descended from Aerialslontus fucopinna
30 cm (head to tail)
A. clavocauda is a small relative of A. fucopinna that has migrated to the more tropical Zone C. In addition to having a smaller body size, these organisms have developed a joint in their upper arms and legs for further agility in flight. This combined with their smaller body size allows them to fly though relatively thick forest easily, a trait needed to escape predators. Due to their new joints, they are now able to more effectively perch on tree branches.
Like their ancestors, colorful males attract females, and fertilization is external. Soft eggs are laid in thick vegetation to prevent predation. Clutches tend to have 10 - 15 eggs, of which one third typically make it to adulthood, due to predation and falling from trees.
A. clavocauda are herbivorous and feed on the various leaves, seeds, and nectar available in Zone C.
