Alcyoneus calidi
These simple producers live in gigantic colonies of myriad tiny individuals in the extreme heat and salt of zone 26. To deal with these unusual conditions, they secrete a transparent substance that allows them to continue to photosynthesize while also keeping colonies together and protected. Colonies form in large spires reaching up to and often breaking the surface in larger colonies. They reproduce by releasing gametes, which fuse into free-swimming larvae that form new colonies, or by fragmentation to expand the current one.
